Looking at his pic here front page on mdo,he sure has'nt aged much or so it seems, fished along side Gary on mille laces when P.W.T. was active mid 90's then bumped in to Gary one year in st paul northwest outdoor show, back when our mile lacs lake fiasco was under way,man he had a sore spot for ron schara siding with the natives and let everyone know who would listen, that fire must keep him going, gotta be in his 80"s by now?

The guys looked the same for years!   I see him from time to time working cutting his ditch grass or in his yard at his home by Merrifield Mn.

For quite a few years I had a booth at the Ice Show and other sports shows I had a white beard.  Gary would stop and say hi now and then.  I have had people take our pictures together cuz we looked like brothers.  LOL  I see him in the grocery store every so many years and he still says hi.  He is a great guy and so is Dave Genz!!

Never met Roach but I have met Dave Genz.  I bought my first FL8 from Dave many years ago when he sold them out of his home in Spring Lake Park.  My friend introduced me to him when he had a stag party years ago.  I still have that FL8.  good luck.

good thread,I  had a friend back in the early 90's that was tight with Genz Dave would give us the nod when he had a line on a hot bite somewhere, his fav was panfish, back then Dave and his brother were just getting off the ground with "fish trap" he borrowed me his 1st one man trap,my idea of ice fishing as a kid was chisseling a hole and hoping for the best catching,Genz schooled me back then about being mobil, gave me a fl-8,and a one man trap, sled was wood with canvas top, weighed a ton,he had the 1st lazer proto type 4900cc strike master auger not on the market that 1st year,we always fished rush lake local unless traveling, folks would come over to check out his strike master auger cause it worked liked a hot knife thru butter(still does) then he would put on a clinic with his gear, folks never used or seen euro larva (much less a vexlar flasher) which he grew in his garage and family helped distribute nationally,(he had the patent on euro larva)damnest thing I ever seen how they colored them critters, today Dave fishes alot in the east as far as new york last I herd chasing giant gills ,jumbo perch and such.

my favorite spots were iowa /nebraska small lakes and farm ponds.
