My two sons, my youngest daughter and I are on our way to deer camp in Waskish. I’ve hunted there every year since I was 12 even after moving to SD. It’s a 10 1/2 hour drive from our home in the Black Hills. My parents & grandma have been at camp since last Thursday. We’ll have a few others join us over the next couple days. We’ll be hunting through the weekend. Wish us luck!

Good luck OJ! When you get back, help find us a place to live in SD. We want out of this liberal stinkhole!  :rotflmao:

It was a fun but a little stressful five days at deer camp for our South Dakota crew. We arrived Wednesday and drove back to the black hills after our morning hunt on Sunday. Our family has three cabins and we tried to social distance and be safe for my 87 year old grandma (who still deer hunts). She stayed in the original cabin that she and my grandpa bought back in 1967. When she would come over to the main cabin, we would make sure to wear masks. My younger (21 year old) son actually started getting sick (fever, body aches, congestion, fatigue) on Friday and ended up holding up in the bunk house the majority of the weekend. Sure hope we didn't put my grandma and parents health at risk. He went in for a COVID test yesterday and we'll find out the results today.

The rest of us had a good time. My uncle shot a fork buck and a spike. My buddy shot nice 9 point buck and a big doe. We had a couple other misses. My daughter had a spike come in and take a 20 minute nap about 25 yards from her stand. She decided that she wanted a bigger buck and passed on it. I had to explain what party hunting is and that someone else could tag a deer that she shoots and she could still hunt for her big buck. Everyone else saw multiple deer from their stands. We had only one doe permit besides my grandma automatically getting one for being over 85. We kept up with some annual traditions...we watched Escanaba in da Moonlight, we drank a little, we played cards, we told deer stories from the past, and we hung out. All in in all another successful deer camp for our crew! My parents and aunt & uncle will go back up the final weekend but now my focus goes to bagging my South Dakota deer. Hope everyone else is having a successful 2020 deer hunting season.

Awsome!!!   I love deer camp traditions.  Escanaba is my all time favorite.
