Buddy sent me this pic from north dakota,archery deer season is right around the corner,not sure what ,why or how these tree's are formed?

Ah yes,the fireball mustof been flowing the other night...figures  he didn't say this was his hunting area but just getting his stands ready,curious how these tree's grew like this?  :scratch:

I seen that forest on a history show once...  kind of cool...  seems no one knows how they got that way...

They look different though; ya can tell they had a break/bend. Usually 90* bends.  Just read a good article on that in last month's copy of my Big River magazine.

Not a forest but one for sure. Last fall I cut this one for a friend of mine who turns bowls and urns.  I haven't heard what it turned out like.
For reference the two stems were coming out of the ground and the single stem to the left was the tree going up.
