Again!

Hate ticks,darn thing's are active already in our fir tree's.After 9 years of swearing off internal tick meds and vaccines,just using a small dose of the very toxic frontline and my pup being infected with lyme twice,I landed on a tick.flea control collar called "Seresto"

What are you guyz using these days?

Bravecta and I will call the Vet and have him send me some.   Works great!  Never see ticks on our dogs and they are outside a lot.

Frontline. I’ve used it for years on all my dogs, never a problem. I’m not trying any new fangled tick treatments that come along, and is not proven, do your own research. A lot of Vets get incentives for pushing certain tick treatments.

problem I have with frontline is how toxic it is,plus in order for it to kill ticks,the tick needs to bite,I alway's found ticks attached to my boyz  using frontline and some that fell off him found they're way on me.So after reseaching I landed on this collar,other dog owners/trainer's,ticks n flea's die on contact iffin you have the collar on which is good for 8 months,we shall see,that's the theory anyway,vet was pushing some capsule form once a month. I used frontline for better part of 30 years,then the small animal vet at the U of M scared me off the stuff,frontline and bio spot he claimed very toxic.

I can't remember for sure what we were using at the time - it might have been Frontline.  We had a dog that developed cancer - starting at the application site and it grew out from there.  Not good.

The easiest is definitely the chewable's but dang they are spendy. We've used seresto fir several years, take it off when it's swim time put back on later. Last spring a write up came out that seresto was having issues with dogs that had issues ( if that makes sense) to where we went back to Frontline just in case but I couldn't stand using that stuff, remembering every month to apply it, make sure they don't rub against anything while it's wet...hate that stuff!!.Sooo back with seresto once again this year. So far over the years we've found dead ticks on em, usually on the outside of there fur.

You’re right about the chewable convenience and the cost, Bobber.  I stopped using Frontline and other versions like that because of the messiness and the possibilities of toxic problems. Checked out Seresto quite a few years ago and don’t remember why, but decided against it. So I bit the bullet and stuck with Nexgard chewables. Just picked up two six packs yesterday. Ouch!! It seems to kill off the ticks early though.
I also spray my boys down with Adams Flea and Tick Spray if they are going to be out in the long grass and brush for long. It seems to work well. They don’t like it much, probably because it smells pretty good.

I've never had any issues with Frontline on any of my dogs. Yea ya gotta watch where you touch them for a few days.

This collar is a new deal for me,was always against collars based on "here-say" dog's dying iffin they get the collar off and chew on it,today after reseraching all the options and my boy having lyme twice infected I'm hoping for the best with this seresto collar this spring,I do my best to keep my grass cut short and burn what I don't cut,try to keep the boy away from the creek area all summer,not sure what to expect this summer in south dakota tick wise,I'll clear cut all the dead fall in the shelter belt starting this weekend unless we get a blizzard out there,never know what mother nature has in store month of april.

My worst tick month has been october during "indian summer" warm up whilst duck hunting low land with cedar tree's.

I used to use the collars but they stunk and I didn't want to touch them so thought I don't want it on my dog neither.  What does it smell like to them?  Nice truck Snow.  Only have found one tick on our dogs since we started using Bravecta and it was dead.  Have used to for maybe 5 years now.

Thanx LP, that's my duck pass shooting spot,Truck was from my days supporting D.U., my company raffled off a new chevy 1500 crew cab every fall for about 10 years.

This seresto collar is orderless,water proof,so we'll see how it goes this spring,seems ticks in my area are active starting in march ,fir trees and every green bushes then lay dorment all summer until sept/oct until hard frost.

Another shot of my pass shooting spot,was a great setup, you can make out the water of a small private lake thru the tree's,then behind me taking this pic is two more ponds,ducks/geese would fly between these water bodies,shooting was fast and furious,sadly it's gone today,urban sprawl.

all those cedar tree's were alive with dog/deer ticks....between this spot and our local apple tree farm we whacked cords of deer years ago,you must remember pine tree apple orchard LP.

Oh ya.  Too bad to see nice places like that disappear.

I've used all kinds of different stuff over the years. Fortunately ticks have been the least of our worries as our Border Collie's attention when outdoors has been on whatever's going on in the pasture & barn. They stay out of the long grass. The Sheltie was a great tick collector. She purposely went in the long grass just to spite us! Fleas have been an occasional issue and I blame most of that on the barn cats. Think it was fall of 2017 that was bad for fleas. Used some Bravecto then & it cleaned house. I liked using the chewables like Heartgard or the generic equivalents. Gus was a PITA about taking pills or edible meds of any kind. Jaws of steel from a lot of ball playing & would spit out anything he decided he didn't like the taste of. Had to go with topicals on him.

Speakin of the hounds swallowing pills, even wrapped in cheese Remi would fight it. Sooo we got to thinkin everytime the butter dish is opened he's like a snake flipping his tongue,  end of problem.  We just put a little on each pill and gone!
