Had to run some errands in Fairmont this afternoon. It was something like 85° out.

I saw a young lady running. On purpose. Not running away from anyone. Granted, she was considerably younger than me and much lighter, but still. Not even a water bottle in her hand.

Good for her, I guess.

I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

Once you get accustomed to it, running in the heat doesn't bother so much.  Ran in college & was still running up until about 20 years ago. Hydrating prior to the run on hot days was crucial. Adjusting your distance was also part of the equation. I'd do 3 miles when it was hot & when it cooled down then it seemed like I could go forever. I'd rip off 10K and if I had time, go for more. Could eat whatever & as much I liked. Carbs? Who cared? Burned them off. Weighed in at 145 dripping wet. Restive pulse rate was 45. Sadly, injury and wear and tear brought my running to a screeching halt. That and I got zero support from the wife. She just didn't understand it. Haven't found an adequate low impact replacement since for the cardio & other health benefits running provided.

I find it interesting too that growing up, we thought nothing of baling hay in this kind of weather. It had to get done before the hay got rained on and ruined. It was hot but unloading was the cake job. Stacking on the rack wasn't real great especially if you had some knothead crowding the baler. But if you were stuck in the haymow by yourself stacking bales, you truly earned your keep. Usually like a sauna in July especially if the bales were a little damp and heating to boot.

Time itself is bought and sold, the spreading fear of growing old contains a thousand foolish games that we play. (Neil Young)
