My grandson finished hunting as a "youth" in a big way. He is a seasoned hunter at age 17. Next year he joins the "adult" group of hunters. As for me, I missed, enough said.

Nice Deer!

How did your camp do over all? Not hearing a lot of great reports this year.
DNR said the zone we are in dropped to a low of 2 deer per sq mile.  First opener I missed in 50 years!  Sucked.  :undecided:

What a deer and congrats!

As for our numbers, I’m the only one in our group of 12 that got a deer so far and 1 of 2 people that even seen deer.

Heard some shooting around here early Opener, but not a lot. Talked to 1 guy, when we were getting the Sunday paper, who is in the CWD zone east of Mn 6 & he said that he didn't see much but wolves.  Where we get the paper is a registration station & the owner's wife said they had only 1 deer.

DE, I'll bet y'er to the point where you'd just as soon see the kids enjoy their success than shoot one yourself.  There is still plenty of season left.

After last Saturday I may have to change my MNO handle. I flat out missed very nice buck. I can't remember the last time I did that. A doe had come loping by my stand passing mere feet from the ladder. Shortly after I spotted a buck running broadside through brush and trees at about 60 yards. I could see very nice antlers and decided to shoot. As I was picking a spot to shoot, I saw a buck with a much bigger set of antlers running after the first buck. No brainer here. I picked a spot and when he entered, I fired. He turned and ran down the hill and disappeared. Main while the first buck stopped to assess what was going on. Now I had a clear shot at a very nice buck but not knowing if I hit his bigger partner, I could only watch as he walked off. Long story short, a friend and I searched the entire area for about an hour and did not find a single sign of a hit. I believe I either hit a tree or the bullet was deflected by a branch. Later that afternoon I had the crosshairs on a very respectable 8 pointer. Very tall shiny white tines. He never gave me a view of his brow tines and at one point I thought he may not have any. After my experience with the two bucks in the morning and my grandson shooting the big 11 pointer, I decided to let him go. Probably means I won't shoot a buck this year but after I put the gun down, I felt a smile come and all was well.  :azn:

Maybe the buck whose sheds you found will walk by your tree yet.

dakids,
No doubt about that. He's probably having his way with a hot doe under a stand right now.  :rotflmao: Just knowing what's there and the possibilities keeps a guy going. Yes, it's nice to get a big one now and then that's for sure. I have to give my young neighbor credit for all he has done to enhance his property. Today I told him how much we appreciate what he has done. He knows well enough that although we may shoot a buck that he had passed on, but overall, we are on the same page as far as deer management goes. Our combined properties make a great haven for big bucks.
