Will wood chips lose their aroma after a few years?  I did the tuna can deal yesterday for some burgers and steaks.  I got smoke and the wood got chared but I didn't get that smokey flavor.

I also think I need those rocks in my grill.  Right now its just the burners and a pan over them then my grate.

depends on a  few things. did the chips remain  dry ?? how big are the chips . is there any mold on the chips.  i have logs that are a few years old  and did notice a drop in flavor from the smoke. however i am not  to sure how to answer your question.  when in doubt  get new chips.  i prefer green wood to dry wood .  and i smoke with a mixture of apple hickory and redoak.  i hopethis may shed  some light on your question ...... :chef: :chef:

Yeah they're old and dry.  I soaked them for maybe an hour before cooking with them so they were barely wet.  I also noticed some white spots on one side but I didn't  know how they would mold being dry and all.

I'll take your advise and splurge on some new chips.
