Fly Rod for Panfish

I've been looking at fly rods over the last couple weeks and I really had no idea how much there is to know about fly fishing.

What would you fly fishermen recommend for a good entry level fly rod?

 ???  not a real fly fisherman . but what i use is a # 6 fenwick 8 ft ,with a martin auto rewind reel with # 6 floating line. for a tipet its a 2lb. clear stren x3 tied to a wooly bugger? catches fish when ever i get a chance to get out .

I steer quite a few folks to Cabela's for one of their "outfits."  RIGHT NOW you can pick up a "Prestige Combo" for $99.00!!!
Jump on that deal, like, right now.   A very, very nice rod and reel for the money, PLUS you get...Jeesh, why don't I just throw the
 link on here.  It is an incredible offer: good disc drag reel, crisp rod, backing, weight-forward line, leader, nice padded cordura case
 and an instructional DVD.  A steal if ever there was one!  Choose the "Letort" (8.5' 5wt.) or the "Willow Creek" (8' 4wt.). 
 With the 5wt., you could even chase moderate sized bass.  With either, you could chase trout, too.
These combos really do defy their low price.  It's good stuff that'll last a lifetime.

Thanks for the info. I may have to run up to Cabela's this weekend and take a look.

I also found a deal at Gander last night. It's a St Croix combo. 8'6" - 5 wt on clearence for $100. It doesn't come with a case, but it sounds like a good deal.

That would work well too.  I usually recommend either a Cortland or Scientific Anglers combo to my new fly fishing customers.  They both include rod, reel, line and backing and also a dvd tutorial.  Both are available in a 5 or 6 weight line size and are priced at less than $100.

St. Croix discontinued their Premier series of fly rods, so if available these rods are selling at about half off at St. Croix dealers.  However, you still get the five year unconditional warranty.

Do you want a flyrod for panfish? If so, I sure as hell would not recomend a 5 weight. Go lighter or you will have no fun. A 5 weight is for fish which are typically a little bigger, like trout or bass. Best of luck, fly fishing for sunfish is great fun!

How about Redington fly rods? I found an unbievable deal on one last night. I've got it on hold, but wanted to get some input on the brand.

How about rod length? There is an 8 and 9 foot rod available.
