Well I broke down and bought a good used canoe today, it's an Alumacraft 17 feet long. Got it out on the lake after pushing it through the little channel that snakes between the cattails. Once out on the lake I felt like a kid again just to be out on the water in one of the most primitive of watercraft. That is until the wind picked up, then I felt my age again as it is hard paddling against the wind.
I made it to the other shore that was blocked from the wind and tried my hand at catching some fish...any kind it didn't matter. I tied on a weedless spoon and tossed it into the lillypads to see if there were any bass around. No bass. BUT on the third cast I did manage to hook onto the biggest bluegill of my life, on a weedless bass lure! I managed to catch 4 of them that were good sized but put them all back because I didn't bring a stringer or bucket to put them in and didn't want them flopping around on the bottom of the canoe.
About the time I figured I should put on a smaller jig type lure a nice dark cloud was making an appearance above the trees so it was time to paddle back WITH the wind this time.

I didn't bring any fish home but I know were they are and I will be back...Oh yes, I will be back. ;D
