DNR Taking Applications For Antlerless Elk Permits
(AP) St. Paul Hunters have until July 13 to apply for one of the six antlerless elk permits being offered this year by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The hunt is being held to reduce the elk population around Grygla in northwestern Minnesota. There are now 55 elk in the area.

The permits allow shooting only female elk, as six bull elk died last year.

Applications for the elk hunt may be made at any of the 1,800 statewide locations where hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

The antlerless elk hunt seasons are September 15 through September 23, and December 1 through December 9. Elk killed will be tested for chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis.
