black labs tongue

i found this lab and still trying to find the owner
but no hits yet, my question is, it has black markings
on the tongue. never had a lab before so dont know if this
is common.

You need to take this dog to a shelter or vet and have it scanned for a microchip It may have 1 and the owner can be found

did the chip thing.. nothing  posted on a few
shelter boards nothing..  dont trust craigs
list..  checked the local neighborhood papers
nada.  maybe the owners are on vacation and
had someone dog sit?

My lab has a big mark on its tongue as well, this sounds stupid but its not common to have it, buts it not a totally rare thing, but there is nothing wrong with the dog having it. I dont know if its a myth or not, but people say dogs with the black mark, kinda like a mole or birthmark makes a better hunter, how that works I dont know. But I do know of people that wont pick out a dog unless it has it. My last two labs were great dogs and they didnt have it, my pup has one but I cant say it makes a difference.

I beleive the old (tale) is if a dog has a pink mouth its a smart dog and if it has black in the mouth its not so smart.

Not trying to say that your dogs are dumb,,,,but thats the way ive allways heard it.

BH, what are yea going to do with the dog then?,,,,is it a birdy dog? male?,,,if you cant find the owner do yea plan on keeping it?

I always heard it this way:

If the dog has a tongue it will be a great hunter.  If it doesn't not so great...

I think the black tongue, black mouth  myths were started by the same guys who said if a dog has a mixed litter, there was a possibility that there would be 'throw backs' on subsequent litters.   Ummm yeah, right! ::  Many labs have black spots on their tongue or in their mouths.  It holds no water on the outcome of the dog.

no offense on it Dave O, I dont put much or any stock in most of the black tongue or anything.

the wife is gonna take it to a different vet tomorrow,
cant see the dog not being chipped. if our search
doesnt work out, we might keep him. but will keep
you in mind. i want a german sheperd! i will get one
when we move north.
