With the hot weather, it appears that the dog days of summer are affecting fishing for walleyes and trout, but the bass action is still good, and some mid size to smaller northerns are getting hauled in.
This statement covers almost all of the lakes in the area currently, and we are in dire need of some rain to cool things down.
The bass fishing seems to be the only game in town, and you can get as many as you want with leeches, crawlers, and jigs with twister tails being trolled in 8-25 FOW.
There have been reports of some good crappie action, with the fish being suspended in 25-30 FOW.
Surface temp on many lakes is over 80 degrees, and the thermocline on Burntside was at around 24 feet three days ago, could be as low as 26-27 feet today. Much phidoplankton or zooplankton being observed with a camera at the same depth as the thermocline.
For up to the minute fishing reports, call me at 218-365-4744 before 10 am daily. I have 45 years fishing experience in the Ely area, and have owned and operated the Great Outdoors Bait & Tackle for 23 years (over five times longer than any other current shop owner within a 40+ mile radius) If I don't have an answer for you,  will call someone that does, and get back to you. Thank you!
