Hello everyone, My name is Ken and I am an outdooraholic.
I am 47, happily married for 27 years and we have a 20 year old son. We have lived in Orono for 20 years but grew up in St. Paul.
I have had a passion for the outdoors all my life but I never owned a boat until I was 36 and didn't start hunting until I was 20. All of my hunting and fishing has been self taught as I have no family or friends that live on a farm, a lake or have land to hunt on. I usually do most of my hunting alone on public land. I started out with target archery then I got into bow hunting. Now I only use a rifle because of a bad shoulder. I have been hunting grouse and phesants for 28 years, turkey for 11 years and I became a quack addict 6 years ago. I started duck hunting after I went on a youth opener with my son and his friends and now I am hooked. I hunt ducks 1-2 times a week but I have alot to learn yet. I have a very good duck boat and alot of decoys but I need to learn to call and explore new places. I am hoping to learn from fellow hunters and maybe even make some new friends.

We never had a fishing boat when I was growing up so all of my fishing was done with friends that had boats.I started going to the BWCAW when I was 17 and since have used all of my own equipment and have been on more than 24 trips. I sold my canoe and  purchased a fishing boat when I was 36. Last year I sold it and bought an 8x16 ice house (The High Life Hotel) I intend to keep it on Minnetonka a short distance from my home, but I use the house more as a portable cabin for hunting. My favorite lakes are Big Sandy, Kabatogama, Mille Lac and Minnetonka. My favorite fish are walleye, crappie and trout.

I have alot of knowledge to share and I hope to learn alot more as well  as make some new friends, Ken :toast:
My rules for the outdoors
1) Expect it when you least expect it.
2)It's all about the journey not the bag limit.
3)Meat tastes better when you kill it yourself.
4)The cuter the critter the sweeter the meat, kill it and grill it.
5)Leave no trace.

Welcome high lifer!! I too have only been hunting for 9yrs. or so and none of my family did or does it.. SO Im in the same boat as you.. And I and you will get a lot from here as everyone is very kind and friendly and always willling to share ..
If you say or react to something when frustrated or angry it will inevitably end in distaster !!
