New West Metro Fishing Report

The fishing remain close to the same as the last report. just a a little deeper maybe a foot and a half




Lake Susan- I caught a few crappies on crappie minnows with plain hook in about 14 FOW. But they were not hitting the minnow as hard as before. they just pick it up and swim with it. They were suspended about 2 feet off the bottom. The crappie size ranged was alot smaller than last week. Did alot of panfishing and caught lots of little sunfish not one had any size to it, on chunks of waxworms, in about 12 FOW.  We also tried for the walleyes. we did not catch any walleyes. We drilled lots of different holes to find the right spot and found some on the camera. They very picky. we tryed everything in our tacklebox they just wouldnt take the bait. we even bounced a minnow off there noses but they just ignored it.  We had a tip up in about 13 FOW with a sucker minnow on the edge of the weeds but had no strikes.

Lake Riley- Lots of fish in this lake. but we couldnt seem to find any of them. caught very few crappie and the ones we did catch had no size to them they were located in about 15 FOW. couldnt find the walleyes and nothing hit the tip-up with a sucker minnow in about 17 FOW

Lotus Lake- This lake always produces in the early morning. we had perch crappies and even a bass take our crappie minnows in about 14 FOW. Caught a few small walleyes but no keepers and nothing touched our tip-up. the fishing seemed to have a on off switch because right at 12:00pm nothing would take our bait not even the small crappies. we moved several different times. 

i must also stress in this report for all fisherman not to leave any garbage laying around on the ice when you move your house's. we picked up alot of pop cans that were laying on the ice.  because if no one picks it up then in the spring when the ice melts it goes in the lake

I fished Lotus Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon/evening last weekend. Saturday I was in 19fow just of Carver Beach. Lots of little crappies and sunnies. Sunday we were just sound of Carver Beach in about 12fow and same story. We managed a few small keepers that made the frying pan, but the largest was 9.5". Once 5pm rolled around the sunnies shut off and it was just crappies. Suspended anywhere from 7fow to near the bottom. It took some enticing to get them to bite. I was using a silver forage minnow tipped with a crappie minnow head. Seemed to work the best. No eyes, but we did get about a 3lb largemount on a fathead. Thinking of heading back out there Saturday this weekend if things go as planned...I've heard there are some walleyes in there (smaller ones).

i was away from carver beach i was down by the south end access. there are walleyes in there and once you find them you have to pick threw th 8 to 10 inch ones and occasionally you will get a bigger fish. biggest one i have seen this year was a 24 inch one my buddy pulled threw the hole. otherwise i have heard of a couple close to the 30 inch mark have been taken out of there just never on the ice. in the spring
