Ice conditions getting better-Trout season open outside of the BWCA

The ice conditions are getting better on the lakes, slush is beginning to freeze, but some bad spots still exist.

We have a massive cold front coming in for the next week, or so, which should make the ice safe for travel with ATV's or snowmobiles.

I would not recommend taking a full size vehicle on either Burntside or Snowbank for another two or three weeks, though some with diminished thinking capacity probably will.

We did well on Trout today with the biggest ones caught in about 39 FOW, smaller fish were deeper.  All were caught with jigs tipped with 3 inch Berkley Power Smelt.
The two of us went out this morning and got a 4, 8, and a 12 pounder. Sad to say, I was the one that caught the 4 pounder, but since I guided the operation, will take full credit for all of them!

Walleye fishing slow with quite a few small ones still coming from Shagawa.

Will give a more detailed report in a week.
