Heading out this weekend...but where?

Looking to get out in the SW metro...not sure where to go though. I think I've narrowed it down to either Tonka or Waconia. I know a lot of Waconia reports haven't been great, but I haven't fished there yet this year and felt I should give it a try...unless someone has any other recommendations...

With this warm front that is moving in tomorrow, I'd be heading to Maxwell Bay on Minnetonka. Should be a good weekend for fishing. Thats where I'd go if I lived on that end of town.

I have not heard anything positive about Waconia this year.  I fished there once earlier in the year and we saw fish on the camera, but they would not bite.  I think you would be better off going to Minnetonka.  If you want some decent crappies try Phelps Bay.   There will be a lot of small sunfish during the day, but after it starts to get dark the bigger crappies come in.

I've literally fished Tonka once in my life, and to be honest that lake is daunting! Not knowing where to park, let alone where to fish...

If you can find Phelps bay on a map you will be able to figure out where to fish.  I drove by there last weekend just to take a look and people are driving out.  There is a little public access that you can't park at, but you can get on the lake.  Just drive out about 300 yards and setup near all of the other houses and you should be set.
