I was always told that the bigger the tree a buck rubs on, the bigger the buck. Well I took a walk through the woods yesterday and found a rub from last fall on a tree that is from 4 to 4-1/2 inches across. Do you think the size of the tree reflects on the size of the buck? I would have posted a picture but I havn't figured out how to do that yet. If anyone could tell me how to do it, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Ron

Thanks for the info Holdemtwice. I'm going to check it out and see if I can't figure it out. Oh bye the way. I seen a picture of your drivers license posted on the internet. This website posts a picture the drivers license of almost everybody that lives in Minnesota. I went on the site and deleted mine and I would suggest everyone else do the same.
The website is: www.license.shorturl.com

I didn't get to set mine up yet.  Im getting the kids set up first.  I hope to make it up to see Chris Wallace this week some time.  I did get Hockey #12 out to try his new set up.  He was struggeling with the draw weight a bit and ended up getting a bad string burn.  I thought he wanted to bag it for the day but the folks there helped him out.  They let him borrow an arm guard and dropped his weight down a bit.

My old bow still shot as good as ever but Im pretty excited to get this new one out.

If ya don't know where ya are, go back to da beginnin.

We have been hunting the deer that made this for 4+ years.

My buddy shot at one (see last picture) a week before we found this rub and we found it dead 100 yards from where he shot at it (225yds from a elevated stand with a 270), he thought he missed as the deer just walked away.  We looked for an hour after he shot and found no blood or fur AT ALL...  Found some fur on the way back on a drive and walked right to the carcass... Yote's had got after it.  :'( :'(

My cousin shot at one two years ago 15 yards broad side in the swamp SOMEHOW he missed (tough to shoot with two hands rapped around your throat).  In his defense the monster (bigger then the last picture) came running at him full blast and stopped at 30 yards.  Stare down for 10 minutes, cousin could move the gun inches every time the deer for turn to move and walk.  My cousin was camo'ed in some trees and swamp grass (very much like the 2nd picture).  Shot and after looking for blood for 30 minutes into the dark, he went back the next day and found the tree he hit.  Shot high!!!  ::)

I figure it's my turn now!!!!  :gunsmilie: :gunsmilie:

Hey scott off topic, does your group practice QDM? That buck looked to have some good genetics in that racks, wide spread for being what I would guess a 2 1/2 to 3 year old deer by looking at the "vertical" of the main frame. What was the spread?

Yes typically thats the story, but big or bigger bucks will also rub on smaller trees as well. They own the woods their mind and hey if I want to demolish this 8x8 or one inch sampling, I am gonna.

If you really want to get a buck worked up, take a wood rasp and make your own mock rub, every one does mock scrapes, but can you honestly say you've done a mock rub? Throw a daytime tripper above a licking branch with Whitcombs and your in the game.

Last yeay i had a lot of 110 class bucks come in, the one even come in and got on his hined legs and licked the dripper. You wanna get your heart pumping have that at ten yards. Needless to say the ice was forming fast and I had to fill my last tag, so I whacked lucky. We called him lucky because he got hit by a car and broke is rack off, had a bit of a limp but otherwise very healthy. While now hes:country suasage, sticks, kraut and cheese, summer sausage,  brauts, and pep sticks.

Hey scott off topic, does your group practice QDM?

Myself and my cousin do but we have tried for three years to get my dad and 11 other uncles to follow.  Hopefully one of these years.  I KIND OF see their point of view since they have hunted our land for 50+ years and untill 4 or so years ago, we would be lucky to get 2 or 3 deer, let alone any bucks.

The problem with QDM is that not enough people practice it, so if you don't shoot the deer, somebody else will.

Where I bowhunt in Andover, the biggest threat to them is cars, the area i hunt currently is the only legal area to hunt with the exception of the sod fields legally, and we work on it very intense.

Up in NYM the general rule of thumb for our neighboring seven farms, in our family alone we have close to a section of land (4 farms) and the only people that could shoot a basket or wasnt wider than the ears with more than 8 points were kids. We shoot alot of does, but we are very lucky to "choose" our animals, i'll take a small doe any day of the week over a basket. What are you going to do with the rack? throw it on a shelf in the garage? But there are areas in the state where you cant do that. I guarantee if I was hunting public, state land, I would whack the first legal brown thing to come past me. Ask Brandon, he'll tell  you about the itty bitty doe I shot up there opening weekend.

It's your hunt so do what you have to do to enjoy it ,But I think the only thing wrong with QDM is the aboved thought!

If you pass on the smaller one and somebody does shoot it    So what!  If you would have shot it and them they shot another smaller one. you now have 2 young dead deer

But most of all I Think Everybody should enjoy the outdoors and if its different than the way I do it.     SO WHAT  enjoy yourself
Are you a hunter or do you just kill things? Respect the wildlife!

I think this is like the old "we had to walk to school up hill both ways in six feet of snow with no shoes" saying that I heard growing up as well.  ;D .

My Dad and his buddy are always saying shoot it or someone else will. Maybe its true maybe its not. Personally I have shot 2 little spikers but will probably hold off in the future.

As far as the original question on this post. I was always told the bigger the rub the bigger the deer as well but I don't think there is any proof of that. DD's may be bigger than I'm used to but if I get the chance I won't hesitate to play with them.  ;D maybe deer are different though.
