A new bill (SF 3057) was introduced to restrict shining deer (for recreation) to one hour after sunset year round.  Also, you couldn't possess a gun or bow while shining.
Although there are good arguments on both sides of this issue, I am very much in favor of restricting shining for the following reasons.
1. Reduce poaching - Crossbows and headlights are deadly on big bucks.
2. Reduce landowner complaints -
3. Gives hunters a bad reputation - most people associate shining with hunters
4. General harrasment - after being run off a field numerous times, deer just don't go back

Does anyone have some good reasons to allow shining?

no... why is it even allowed?
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

I do all my scouting during the day.  No need to do so at night.  That just stirs em up and could ruin bedding areas...Im for no shining at all.
If ya don't know where ya are, go back to da beginnin.

hmm i wouldnt count the flash's as shining, like SS said your not in person and your not being tempted to poach. it doesnt even make sense why they would even allow shining, nothing good can come from it

That would be news to me, I've always seen green eyes only. From bucks to fawns only green eyes.

I do agree that shining deer has no purpose and does nothing good for the herd or outdoors.

But, not all people that shine deer are poachers! I love taking the kids out near dusk and looking at deer, sometimes when it's a little darker, we will shine our lights too. No guns or ammo in the truck, just observing nature!!!

If I had to vote on shining or no shining, I''d definitely vote to ban it. Only because the very few people that are poachers can give us all a bad name.
