a/c recharge??

Is it easy to do? Or should I take it in? I have a 99 voyager that i use for work and I need cold air..

pretty easy to do yourself, any auto parts store will have
the kit. just follow all instructions and cautions. but pretty
foolproof.

Make sure you don't overcharge it ! If it is overcharged it will not cool. Look for oil leaking from around fittings, the compressor shaft and the condensor which is in front of the radiator before you add a charge . If there is a big oil spot it might not last long which indicates a leak .

also make sure the condensor, the thing in front of the radiator
isnt full of cotton or bugs.

I gave one of my cars the old recharge here the other day.  The pressure will hold but it still isn't cooling.  Any suggestions?

that would be a loud click noise when you turn on the air..
the middle part of where the belt goes around the pulley
on the compressor
should be turning.

doesnt matter...  you can only get one kind r134 it mixes with
r12 which i think you dont have.

A 99 chrysler product should be R-134A for a refrigerant .  I have a 98 Dodge 1500 pickup and it is R-134A system . Never mix refrigerants . R134A is not compatible with the oil which an R12 uses .

If the compressor is not starting it could be a wire off on the low pressure switch near the firewall or a fuse . Also check the connection right at the compressor. The low pressure switch will be connected to the refrigerant system .

The middle part of the compressor isn't starting and the compressor isn't clicking on.  I will look for these wires.  Any other ideas?

check the A/C fuse first, if thats good find that thing with the 2
wires aka low pressure switch and jump the 2 terminals. the compressor
should kick in.

What kind of vehicle is it ?

2000 Ford Taurus with 3.0 V6 Vulcan.

Well , I'm not to sure about the Fords. But they cannot be to much different than the others . GM and Chrysler use a Bottle in line that is called an accumulator . Some are aluminum colored and some are painted black . They are mounted in the bigger of the 2 lines coming from the firewall to the compressor . Some low pressure switches are mounted right on these accumulators and some are in line. There will be 2 wires going to it via a plug . These are the 2 wires that have to be jumpered together to bypass the switch . Some have a high pressure switch that will turn off the compressor also and they are mounted somewhere in the other smaller line .   Don't confuse the 2 .  I know that these newer front wheel drive cars bury all this stuff wherever they can and some cannot be seen from above .  My Saturn has it buried under the battery and the headlamp .  Sorry I could'nt be of more help .

thanks for the help everyone it is fixed.  I did find the low pressure switch and jumped the 2 wires......still nothing.  (Lucky I have 2 of these same cars)  I took the relay out of the one that worked and replaced that.  Then it started to work.  I went into town and picked up a relay and bing bang boom a cool car.

Congrats on a job well done ! I thought of a relay but they usually do not go out . Glad that it was a cheap fix .
