Have you all heard yet that the 09 Governers opener is gonna be held on White Bear Lake in the Metro area? This is great news for the city of White Bear Lake, the festivities and tourists should bring in a lot of money.

I really don't understand why they picked White Bear Lake though, i'm sure thay are thinking money potential, weather and staying closer to home would be nice, more metro residents will have the chance to attend and so on..... The fishing part must not matter too much, the governer will be lucky to keep his string of catching a Walleye on opener going, if youv'e ever fished White Bear Lake during opener, you probably will understand. The lake is a complete zoo on a normal fishing opener, 2 hour waits at the ramps are not uncommon and Walleyes are hard to come by because of all the pressure and noise.

Can you imagine how many boats will be on the lake with the Governers opener? Traffic will be backed up from Forest Lake to St Paul on 35E, hwy 61 will probably be undrivable and using the public accesses will be a complete joke.

Better plan on launching your boat a few days early if you want any serious fishing time.... I wonder who the local guides will be for the Governer and Lt Governer, i'm guessing the Griz will get chosen.

Should be good for the city though.  :happy1:
