Francisco Liriano has heard the comparisons to Johan Santana since very early on in his career with the Twins.

The difference, now, is that the comparisons are no longer based on expectations, but the similar results that Liriano is bringing to the mound.

With the type of performances that Liriano has been putting together -- like he did in the Twins' 4-0 victory over the Orioles on Sunday at the Metrodome -- it's really no surprise. Liriano pitched seven scoreless innings for the Twins, giving up just one hit while recording six strikeouts in the effort.

No runs was exactly what Liriano (5-1) gave up on Sunday. He didn't even allow a hit until the fifth inning, when Orioles designated hitter Javy Lopez singled to center with one out. It was the second time in Liriano's last three starts that he has carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

He has been very good so far, but lets see what happens after hitters haver seen him.  I think his stuff is good enough that it won't matter, but you never know.

The Twins actually have some good players to build the team around right now.   It is time to get rid of a couple of players that are not going to be here long term and get some younger guys playing time.

I think Santana may have read this post. He was on fire the other night.
Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold pint-- and another one!
