Lake Geneva Report 08/28/08

Today Ken Abraham and I started out at 5:30 am trolling spinner baits along the south shore during the dark of the moon period. Tandem chartreuse/silver blades seemed to be the combination of choice once more as Ken whacked 3 largemouth bass in short order while I picked up one pike with a different color combo.

As soon as daylight broke we had a red sky behind a mess of clouds which seemed to coincide with the forecast and current radar. Boat traffic was at a minimum due to a 50 % chance of storms forecasted. We headed to the hot spot found during my last outing and hot it was not! That's Geneva for you this year. Some days it's like being a rookie all over again.

We tackled several other proven reliable spots as the light rain began to enter the area. The rain was accompanied two commanding distant claps of thunder that wound up never making it into the area. The fish we managed to catch were hard to come by. At noon I usually it wrap up for the day, but I offered Ken two last spot options to work for an extra half hour and he picked the one that I favored the most.


The extra half hour of fishing turned out to be two hours instead since the wind picked up as well as the bite and we hit some darn good action. The last time out the fishing also picked up around noon so for those of you that are early starters and can fish weekdays, don't throw in the towel as the morning disappears. Leeches and crawlers fished from an anchored boat making short moves in the same areas seems to be the best tactic for us right now.

***Since three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land, it is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
