I seen 2 doe's and a fork tonight, 150 yards out.
Just a little to far out for my taste, and walking through a small thicket.

Maybe tomorrow, or the next................

Got tomorrow off and heading out in the am/pm. May the luck come my way in the form of a nice rack, or a fat doe.

Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

A friend of mine has brought me along a couple of times to an area real close to Whitewater State Park. We had gone out there last week and I ended up seeing 9 deer in the morning. This morning I had another opportunity to sit in an existing ladder stand of another hunter that used the property for shotgun season.

Right after first light I heard some sounds behind me crunching in the snow. I slowly got my head around to see two deer off my left side, and two off to my right. There were two big doe, and two small yearlings. I was pretty much stuck in a stalemate for about fifteen minutes as I was in a stand that would be an optimal bedding/transition area so I figured they weren't going anywhere fast. As they do, one of the big does eventually made my silouette in the tree and ended up trotting down the hill away from me. As it turns out as she started so did the other two, but the one yearling (which was about ten yards from me) watched them trotting off. This was my only chance to put a bead on one of the bigger does, but I had too much through tree shooting so I quickly dropped my bead down on the little one.

The breadbasket chip shot let her go only ten yards and expire.

This was my first smoke pole kill. I was truly amazed at the size of the entrance hole as I probably could have dropped a tennis ball through it. Not the happiest about the size of the animal, but a wonderful experience, and better than any day at work! :happy1:

Remeber, I'm six foot seven so the deer may look a little small.... :whistling:

Figure I would post these two also.

First is during the death kick she wedged herself under a tree, and the second is a welcoming sight for any deer hunter when there is snow.

I sat out last night, this morning and took a walk this evening.
I didn't see any or even jump one when I went on my walk.
There hasn't been any new tracks since the last time I was out.
For some reason, they just quit moving, even at night.

I'll keep trying....but, it's not looking to promising.  :banghead:

Okey Dokey...............I'm done deer hunting...........

I skipped out of work early and whacked my doe.

Time to finish out the pheasant season, then get serious about ice fishing.
