Last night I watched two does feed by at about 40 yards.  Then I heard a buck grunt behind them.  He came up to the place the does were and started raking the tree branches with his antlers.  I grunted but he paid not attention.  Then I did a grunt-snort-wheeze and he gave me a look but went back to trashing a bush.  I did another grunt-snort-wheeze and started for me.  When he angled as if he was attempting to get down wind, I had to turn around to get ready for a shot.  He was about 30 yds away when the stand creaked.  Not loud, but enough to stop him.  We had a stare down for about a minute.  I was peeking around a tree and the wind was ok, but he eventually didn't like it and turned and hopped away.   Think I'll get another crack at him?

I'm with Cody. The urge to breed is hard to resist for them. Who knows though.

He could be a mile away chasing another doe before you know it, and a bigger one could slink in cruisin for hot does.

I saw three bucks today, all cruisin or chasing does, not one of them were big though.

Good luck.
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

I agree, they get a little less cautious this time of year, i dont think you alarmed him enough to ruin your chances either.

It doesn't sound to me like you gave him enough of a reason to not come back deadeye. He just knew something wasn't quite as he expected it should be and left the scene. I believe you'll see that boy again over the next couple of days, especially if the girls are still cruisin your area. Get the girls there and them big boys will follow!   ;)
