Public or Privite hunting land

 Wondering how to find public hunting land in the Preston, Lansboro area. Or if anyone knows any land owners in the area? any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can purchase state maps that indicate all of the public hunting places. Also, there is a book/map that shows all of land parcels in a county and who owns it. Not really sure where to find one. The courthouse maybe?

they make plot maps for all counties in mn.. the state book store should have them. or the dnr office in st paul

you can get a plat book from any county land office. they are usually about $50 though. they show you all the tax land, and who owns what land along with any county and other public lands. this is the best way to find hunting spots. you can also use it to find out who to ask for permission to hunt on a specific parcel. if you can spare the cash its a great tool

All of the plat maps and dnr maps will help you out with public land. There are some great areas around the bluffs between Preston and Lanesboro that are not openly posted that are public also. The land down there between Lanesboro and Peterson along the river harbors plenty of public hunting grounds, but it is uphill a majority of the time.

You're probably going to have to become a "weekend warrior" and hit the pavement to actually talk to the people about hunting thier land. I have tried calling people in the past using the plat maps and calling thier home phone, and it really doesn't work too well (impersonal?). Get out there and randomly talk to a farmer when driving down the dirt roads, or ask locals about willing farmers if you live in the area. It really also depends on game, weapon, and thier past experiences with hunters.

The DNR website has a recreation compass that lists out WMA and other state land. You can search by city and see the public land available. I have used it with pretty good success .
