guys, I got an early christmas present from the girlfriend, it's just a st. croix premier ice rod blank.  but the handle is all cork and there is no way of attaching it.  I was thinking some zip ties?  on their website their combo has some rubber straps or something, but I don't know where I would be able to get something like that...  any ideas?

Electrical tape works fine.  I have some ice rod with all wood handles and just used electrical tape to put the reels on.  You just have to make sure you use enough.

I just went and took a look at my rod bag and I must have the same rods you have.  I bought two from Gander Mountain on closeout last year and I had to tape the reels on them.  I forgot I even bought them.

I always use zip ties.  Haven't had any problems with any of them, I usually use a longer tie and wrap it around both front and back of real.

Sure, I can do that.

But, for you Doug, I'm not sure if I can get tape in purple....   :whistling:

yesterday i was using the st croix combo that i got as a gift last spring. it the rubber straps and a zip tie. after about an hour or so the locking tab on the zip tie got to be too much to handle. so i cut it off. the rubber straps don't work very well on their own. i still haven't figured out where to put the tab of the zip tie so it doesn't cut into your hand. i will be taping the reel before my next outing.

I prefer tape over anything. I have used a rod with a rell attached by zip-ties and there seems to always be a little wiggle. Even the smalest amount annoys the heck out of me.

I use silicone tape on all my reels. It's self fusing, but has no adhesive. It sticks only to itself.
