Any good walleye lakes??

im looking to expand my range a bit farther than the west metro, fishing the same lakes over and over for the past 4 years is getting a little old. but i dont really want to drive for longer than a hour. But does anyone know of any real good walleye lakes around here. ive had a real craving for walleye lately and cant bring myself to buy it at the store now i aint asking for any secret spots or anything and if you dont want to post the info on the forum you can pm me. all i really want is a lake i can find the rest on my own, unless you want to really help out. otherwise i have heard minnetonka is pretty good for eyes also but i have no idea were to go on the lake. and i have no knowledge of the lake either. thanks

As far as the east metro, you could try any of the lakes in the chisago or lindstrom chains.  Just stop by Frankies on 8 and ask where they are biting.  They're always willing to help you catch them.  Every time I've been at Frankies, they've told me exactly where to go to find them, depth, baits, how to fish the baits, etc.  Try that at other bait stores where you might get "walleyes are in 12-25FOW and are biting on minnows."  Otherwise, you could try the bayport area of the St. Croix, where you've got a very good chance of getting some slab crappies.

Hey kingfish, do you know if they still have shiners at Frankies, some one told me they had em... theyre getting slim at Vados.....

minnesota dnr lake finder........type in walleye.....set the hook wherever you want.......check by county or specie.....

Yeah, thats a good resource,  I wouldnt go by the data there alone to see how big the crappies are or how many youd catch, but its a good barometer for seeing what type of a lake it is yer looking at and is really good for finding forage/bait info on a lake....

the DNR lake finder is a good starting point.  I would check the lake finder, narrow down my choices, and then ask about the lakes you've chosen from and try to get some more info on them to see how well they've been producing.  Some of the lake finder reports are many years old.

i start with lake finder......then i call the local fish biologist for that district.....lake finder has been very very good to me over the years......tw
