In these hot days most people think it's too hot to fish for they don't bite anyway. Not true. Bass for instance will bite with vengence you must be in deeper water and move slower. My favorite way is with a rubber crawdad or lizard with a bullet sinker and weedless hook right on the bottom. The bass seem to be a bigger than at most other times of yr.

Also try to find smaller lakes with not much skiers or tubing going on.

Anyone else have any tips for these "dog days"

Bring extra beer. ;D

yes griz, in fact i do. besides going fishing with joe and his extra beer, search your typical early season weedline edges in search of walleyes and watch your depth finder and watch your depth finder and believe what you are seeing and watch your depth finder.
the blips and arcs you are seeing are there for a reason. they are not a figment of your imagination. yes sometimes they are not what you are searching for, ie, suckers, perch, whitefish etc. sometimes they are exactly what you are looking for. you can even lower your camera to try to catch the fish's eye view, or just drop your jig and minnow to try your luck.
slip bobbers are a nice approach for wary fish that have been harrased by boaters and jet skis all summer.

the second advice is the same thing i believe all year long, especially on open water, fish for whats biting. you may be after enough crappies for dinner, but you may very easily run into enough sunfish for a fish fry for you and your friends at the same time. often times it only takes a slight change in your presentation, to turn the occasional sunny into a quick limit.

the one thing I can tell you possitively absolutely is that you won't catch anything sitting on the couch.
get out there.
the will only get better from now until freeze up.
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

I didn't bring enough beer for 3. :D

Your right though, a guy just has to get out there. I don't know what it is, but this time of year I'm not thinking much about fishing, which is unfortunate, because there is plenty of good fishing to be had.

Thanks guys ya just helped me make up my mind. Called my buddy up and tomorrow we taking the canoe to a small private lake for some panfish.

With my job I don't get out fishing as much as I'd like to in the summer. But I have to make time regardless of what the judge says.
