is it on a seperate fuze? your owners manual should show you what fuze is for what and you may get lucky and be able to pull just that fuze.

From Alldata

If it is the -Module - Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)

-Disconnect the battery ground cable. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
-Remove the passenger side air bag module.
-Remove the Passive Anti-theft System (PATS) module and bracket.
-Remove the bolts.
-Disconnect the electrical connector.
-Release the retainer tabs and remove the PATS module from the bracket.

If it is the - Module - Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP)

-Disconnect the battery ground cable. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these static charges, damage may result.
-Remove the LH rear quarter trim panel.
-Disconnect the two Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module electrical connectors.
-Remove the two RAP module fasteners.
-Remove the RAP module.

Either way - NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Im sure youve checked but sometimes the obvious is overlooked. Is the remote dead because of the battery in it?

changed the battery and still nothing, so they think the remote shorted out

If there was a "short" you would be blowing fuses left and right...
