Bemidji area report...

Well the Bemidji area has been good this winter for some, and horrid for others. The walleye anglers on Lake Bemidji have been grumbling, while the diehard pannie anglers are in a state of bliss. Travel has improved over the last week, but it remains iffy on many lakes without a sled...

Panfish are still biting with reckless abandon, and are being found in a plethora of areas on any given lake. Some lakes are putting out nice 'gills in the 4-8' range while a lake 3 miles away has a good bite going in 17' of water off the break. I've been telling everyone to start shallow and work your way out! Crappies are mixed with the 'gill on many lakes, and good numbers of smaller fish are still roaming suspended off breaks and in the main lake basins.

Walleye's have been hit or miss this season, mostly thanks to Mother Nature. When people are unable to get to the midlake structures, the walleye fishing is sure to be poor, but somehow most anglers are still finding enough to stay interested and cling on to some hope. Could be the fantastic perch fishing on Bemidji this year, many jumbos are playing nice...  The anglers who are offroading or have sleds are being rewarded with stellar fishing for non-pressured fish.

The panfish and walleye bite remains good in our area! Come on up before the walleye season closes, or afterwards for some hit panfish action!

The perch and tulibee's are even getting more active as the days pass!

Walleye and pike season went out with a bang, as the fish were aggressive going in to the final weekend of the season. We deferred, and fished pannies and pout all weekend....  People who did make it out on Bemidji chasing walleyes were rewarded with one of the better weekends of the year!

The panfish bite remains solid if you're active. 'Gills and crappies are still being had mixed in the shallow flats. The deep water bite for suspended crappies still exists on some lakes, but it's not nearly as good as the mixed shallow bites we've found throughout the year.

Eelpout are also getting ready for the spawn, and are becoming more and more active daily. On Bemidji anywhere from 30' up to 13' has been good. Sitting in 24-27' jigging aggressively with tippies set in 13-15' of water has been good.

Don't forget about the great perch action in our area. It's been steady all year for decent perch, numbers, as well as size have been great. It'll only get better from here on out!
