Changed out the spark plugs on the wifes car tonight.  I would love to punch the guy who decided to designed something so  :censored: up.

I had a taurus once that I was told you had to unbolt the motor mount and tip the engine to get at that plugs on the back side. I never did change the plugs.

My outlaws...er inlaws had a Chevy Berretta that had to have the engine loosened from it's mounts to have the back 3 plugs removed.  I had a Corsica that was the same way (virtually the same car).  My theory is:  The engineers that designed this are either burned out hippies that the many acid trips they took in the 60's are finally catching up to them, or they are so young and tech. savy that they never had their hands on tools (other than the one in their pants) and think everything looks great on their computer models.  Either way they should all get electro shock therapy weekly if not daily!  :doah:

That is what I do for a living and I sympathize with car owners. Engineers are making it harder and harder for car owners to work on there own cars. But I hate it when customers come into our shop and yell at us when a tuneup costs 3 or 4 hundred dollars. Dont yell at us, we did not design it. I have done tuneups that take special tools and need to tear the top part of engines off and take 4 or 5 hours. It is no fun. Fords are getting even worse with new style plugs now.

Thats why i retired from the auto repair business, Cant distort this
old body anymore. Dont miss the cuts and burns, dont miss getting
all greasey! Most people dont realize what it costs to run a shop,
with insurance, workmans comp, PCA permits of all sorts. Then you to
add a corp attorney, accountant and office help. Then you have
classes just to keep on top of current technology and real expensive
tools and test equiptment, repair manuals ect...
yep....  i am glad i am out of it ;D

This is the part I don't miss. Or in my case the Service writer getting chewed on so he then chews me out. I really enjoyed the job but the industry is really screwed up.

I like it as a hobby better. Doing a 3.1l intake this weekend and looking forward to it.

That's an American Engineer for ya. I have coursework in advanced autos and had to bring my f150 to a shop to replace plugs because I didn't have the tools. I feel bad for the guy that did it. He quoted me at $100 and it took him quite a while to get it finished and I could only afford to pay him like $120.
The heater core went out on my truck. Standard procedure stated that I need to remove the windshield to accomplish the job. WTF!
I agree with Randy. I'm real glad I didn't pursue that dream!

The car was a 2003 Ford taurus.  I had to tak the air cleaner off and go in that way to the back.  My straight 6 on my Jeep was a dream to work on even though all I ever had to do was change plugs and oil on it.  About the only thing American motors ever did well in building that engine.

My straight 6 on my Jeep was a dream to work on even though all I ever had to do was change plugs and oil on it.  About the only thing American motors ever did well in building that engine.
1975 CJ-5 Loved that little puddle jumper.
I was told that in the new vehicles the spark plugs should last for 100,000 miles. I don't know if its true but we always sell before that anyways. And the only thing I work on now days are lawn mowers.
You never see a FLAG BURNING at a GUN SHOW.

i know i would never own a ford expidition a coworker had one and i watched him change plugs and each plug has its own coil pack on it and very little room he traded it for a chevy! good man
