Rockman's Report / It's Perchin time!!

We did not get much of this last snow, probably 4 inches at the most. The winds are a blowing out of the N.W. at 25 mph so I will wait until tomorrow to get the road plowed of. There is still a pretty good perch bite, even with the snow cover we just got, I think the perch are on the move and they will be here in great numbers in the next week or so. They have no choice but to move in towards their spawning areas anyway, so Mother Nature is working in our favor for once. The perch are still biting in 30ft of water on bugs and minnows just off of the second reef in the muck were the bug beds are they have preferred more so the small crappie minnows the past few days, on a set line with a plain hook in the red or chartuse color, size 8 Gamy hooks.

We will have the Bar and Grill open again this weekend from 7:00am to 9:00pm. It will be well worth the efforts to make the trip up this weekend, it is suppose to be in the upper 30 to 40 degree range and a guy can move around a lot better with some snow on the ice. It was great that we did not get the 8 to 12 inches of snow that was forecasted. The closer we get to mid march and the first part of April the better the bite will get, the best bite is still to come. I have posted a few pics of some perch that a group of guys caught this past week, on two separate days. They are on the photo album @ www.rockyreef.com under the photo tab. They are some dandy perch that is for sure. It seems like the bigger Perch are biting off of the bottom about 3 to 4 ft. So bring up some crappie minnows and some wax worms when you come, so you do not have to run back to the bait store to get them when you get here.

The bite is best in the morning from 7:00am to 11:30 am and again from 1:30 until dark, but there has been a surprise run of really big perch in the afternoon from time to time.

looks like they have been doing alright. tried calling the resort a couple of times this past week and get a fishing update.

I had been vacation last week. But you can always get a fishing report from my site every week. I try to post here every week too at least until April or until the ice gets too bad to fish on.
