I've never hunted with a gun during the Minnesota firearm season.

I have mainly used shotgun as it's the only thing that was legal in my area. If I could choose I'd go with 270 which I have used when going up north.

You gave me the option on the poll and I never actually voted.
So do you shoot a rifled slug? I bought some rifled slugs when I was bear hunting for my 870 express.
I don't want to sound stupid, but what do you use when you switch from the smooth bore to the rifled barrel?

First thing there is no stupid question:

If you use a slug be it rifled or not take out your full choke if yea can.

They do make a choke just for slugs and it can be nice but not mandatory by any means..

If you don't have tubes for your gun don't worry about it. I cant count how many slugs went out of my old 1200 or wingmasters.

Pending on your gun and your check book there are barrels just for slugs. Its more times than not rifled with sights instead of a bead and is allot shorter..

I guess the only thing yea need to do is practice and allways use the same slug hunting as you did in practice..

Good luck and if you have any more questions ask away.

Griz, you can use a 270cal around here. I do, it's a Thompson Encore pistol. Very accurate.

OL PUTZ is going for the high speed brick or the 300 grain sabot  in .50 cal. The shok wave will get em and no mark on the hide, kind of like barking A squirrel. I think even Griz has heard of that one.

30-30 Winchester (Hasn't killed anything yet).  Been thinking about upgrading to a .270 for my long distance shots, but keeping the 30-30 for the brush hunting.

Ok people,

Whats the big deal here this post was read 144 times and we have only 18 votes?

any ideas on how to get more people to vote?

I have also made it so you can vote more than one time for those people that shoot deer with more than one weapon.

I allso would like to get as accurate as possibal so the people that have chose other,,,,,,can you say what other is so I can add that option to the list,

Thanks: DaveO

Well it's not that people are not voting. I think it's more a matter of some of us are viewing it often.  By the results my advice on a 270 wasn't too bad was it.
