Well my waterfowl season came to a close yesterday,I know the finale day is dec 1st but a guy has to work or at least I do~ we ended the season season with a fantasic mallard hunt just 15 minutes from my house,I'll get the pics posted asap,we scouted saturday evening near some private land we hunt,it has a small lake on it that we never hunt, instead we let what birds are in the area roost there, well knowing it would be the last day we decided to hunt it sunday morning~

Just before 1st light I walked down to the waters edge and put up "one" robo duck nothing else,my hunting partner over slept and I as I sat down in the blind on the hillside over looking my spread  ;D the 1st flock of mallards buzzed me and Buck,my retiever, still to dark to pic out drakes in the gloomy, cloudy conditions so I passed on them,10 minutes later a pair come right to the robo almost landing,"Bang" one drake down, then another single "Bang" then two more drakes "Bang" Bang" could'nt believe it was over that fast, luckly my buddy shows up,he stumbles down to the blind just as a honker glides in,another "Bang"...I was'nt perpared for this action and only had a 10pack of ammo on me and four more ducks to shoot and 3 more geese for my buddy  ;) He's a little green being his 1st year,so its fun to watch and let him shoot 1st plus he had two boxes of ammo on him,he shot two drakes in 10 minutes, his 1st mallards ever,we ended with 8 mallards and two honkers.Perfect way to end the season and what a perfect morning for waterfowl weather wise, sept 2010 seems like a long way off.

Snow-

Are you suggesting a road trip????

It is a sad day knowing that duck season is closing......   :doah:

I guess I will have to keep working to pass the time until next season.

A sad few days it was.  I hunted weds thru sunday noon.  Never saw a mallard.  I saw a total of 5 ducks thursday, 3 goldeneyes in a group and then a couple eyes.  Shot one.  Friday I saw a total of 5 ducks, 3 ringers, shot 2, a single redhead and a single gadwall and bagged 'em both.  Never saw a duck on saturday or sunday.  I hunt between Alex and Fergus.  We just didn't get the migration this year.  They must have gone over.

Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning was my last time out.  Brother and I got two mallards and a ringneck.  Total this year we tallied 20 ducks in 7 times out. Not the best luck but this was our first year duck hunting so I see it as a learning season. Highlight of the season... Our fisrt time out this year 1 minute after sun up we had a group of 6 tiel fly in and we got 4 of the 6.  Great first duck memory that will last forever!  Can't wait till next year!

Over the years I've learned each year is different just like fishing, the spot that was hot last year does'nt mean it will produce again this year,I usually put on alot of miles scouting except when we hunt my home turf, hunting spots here are limited,we will always see birds here, just varies how many each year. When you travel west from western MN into the Daks you'll find all the birds you want if ya find the location, waterfowlers at our motel were scatching their heads trying to figure out where we got our birds, he he he... They just could'nt hunt w/o their duck boat and maybe did'nt believe us we were hunting in standing crops as you can see in the snow goose pics, one, sometimes two dekes is all we used,"The Robo Duck".

I had another great season! Yes spending a week in Canada and a couple long weekends in Nodak helps. Now it is just  :cold: & :snow4: Til the spring snow goose season starts!
Where I'm from calling, flagging and decoying are just basic skills and the kids will do a little guiding just to pay off some bills.
