Road improvements near Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park to begin

Road work is about to begin near Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park, but the park will remain open during the project. Reconstruction of County State Aid Highway 5 between the park entrance road (County 118) and Minnesota Trunk Highway 16 near Wykoff is scheduled to begin as early as Sept. 14, according to Fillmore County officials.

Work will include some realignment, major regrading and eventual blacktop resurfacing in 2011 or 2012. The project will greatly improve safety and function for visitors and local traffic.

Portions of County 5 will be closed during construction. Detours will be in effect and will be clearly signed.

Visitors coming from the north and west (including visitors from the Twin Cities, Austin and Rochester) are urged to use U.S. Highway 63 /Minnesota Highway 16 to Spring Valley. Detour signs will be posted from Spring Valley.

Visitors coming from the east and southeast via U.S. Highway 52 will find detour signs near the city of Preston.

Visitors coming from Iowa on U.S. Highway 63 will be able to access the park in the usual fashion using Fillmore County 14.

For construction updates, see the Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park Web page or call the park office at 507-352-5111.
