I am really starting to like that state.
Went back to North Dakota last weekend with 6 other guys and we stayed with my son in Towner. The plan was those guys would hunt and another guy and myself would fish. Wednesday and Thursday were tough - some rain and lots of wind. We tried to do some scouting on Wednesday on the way up, but actually did not accomplish much. My sons day off was Thursday but luckily he was able to work Thursday and take Friday off instead. I spent a half day on Thursday chasing him around the farm and watching the lad in action. Made me very proud. The rest of the guys duck hunted on Thursday and shot a few pheasants too.

Friday Wyofish and I and one other guy made plans to fish a lake he had never been to. He had heard from work that one guy who usually fishes the tailrace (below the dam at Sacajawea) had been going there instead and doing well. We got there and the lake was closed to boats! WTF?!

So we decided to head to Audubon - east end of Sacajawea. There were 2 boats at the landing. Fished it for about 2 hours and caught nothing. Decided to get something to eat in Garrison. We ran into a Fish and Wildlife guy in the restaurant and started asking him questions. He said hardly anyone is fishing and no one is catching any fish. Fawkinnae!

So we went anyway. We launched out of the State Park south of Garrison. Huge parking lot at the landing and not a single car there. Weather was finally starting to get nice. We fished for about 3-4 hours. Caught 2 real nice pike, a 33" and a 35.5", 3 smallies and a 19" saugeye. Spectacular lake!

Saturday I went fishing by myself to a small lake near Towner while everyone else hunted. Caught probably 10 pike with the biggest 30". Had the lake to myself. Ducks everywhere.

Little pheasant hunting on Sunday morning and headed home. Great trip.

Looks like a good time- except for the trailer part.  How much driving time to get from Maple grove to your destination in ND?

About 7 hours unless you take the long pheasant/duck scouting route. That probably added an hour or 2.

Pristine is a good word to describe it. Amazing all the birds out there and how few hunters we saw.
