this is a good / bad type deal here.
the good, I just nailed a halloween buck. watched him go down, and made the recovery.
the bad...I screwed the video up

I wanted to take advantage of this snowsquawl that came rippin through yesterday evening, but the deer must have waited until the snow quit after dark to venture out.
I went to my brothers property this morning. almost didn't get out of bed, it was cozy under the covers, but after two slaps of the snooze, I shut it off and crawled out.

I grabbed my gear and headed to the woods.
I hunted here one other time this year, and sat on the power line stand to get an idea of what was moving around out back.
I watched two does most of the morning during that sit but saw no other deer. I did however hear one moving in the thick balsams and aspens behind me, but could not see in there from where I was.
the does would react to it, and I figured it was a buck. just guts I guess.

so this morning trying to talk my self into a good hunt setup, checking the weather to see wind speed and direction, I thought with the nnw wind at 15 - 25 mph, the sit behind the powerline stand, right in the junk would be the ticket.
lets just see what's moving around back there.

it din't take long to realize that the deer were indeed moving as indicated by the tracks.
lots of them over night on my half mile walk to the back of the property.
there were does and fawns, and to my pleasure, there were big buck tracks!
quite a few sets too.
they musta been cruising all night long.
so I makes my way into the thick stuff, though the wind was at my back, I figured if I just took it slow and didn't blow anything out, I'd have a pretty good sit.
I followed the east west fencline on the south line into the area of balsams behind the ladder stand I sat in the other day.
I found a nice tree to attach my tree seat to. it was to thick to climb and still see, so the tree seat was my perch today.
I looked right and left, recognizing my shooting opportunities. I mounted my camera on my bow, did a introduction to be sure every thing was working. I really new at this video taping.
I settled in and waited, and watched.
after about a half hour or forty minutes, I look to my right, down wind, and here he comes.
he just missed my scent stream and I don't know how, but I didn't hear him come in until he was right there!
twenty yards and closing. I quickly reached for the record switched it on.I then clipped on my release.
he was at fifteen yards, and I drew. he kept coming, and at 8 yards, he saw me, but it was to late, my muzzy broad head was on it's way at a high rate of speed.
you know what happened next?
THWACK! I blasted right through his shoulder blade, through both lungs and out the rib cage, and off he went.
he ran straight forward, and you know what happened next?
I realized I had forgotten to push the record button!
sonofabich!
I said some bad words and hit record and then said a few more bad words as I watched him.
I actually got him standing at thirty yards wobbling and then five more steps and he went down.

how could I be so stupid!?

I am thankful I got him, clean shot, easy recovery, but I sure wish I had about 20 more seconds, I'da thought about the record button. it just happened to quick.
I have to find my dv cable to down load the video, what I do have.

he's no slob by any means, in fact he's smaller than last years buck, but he's an 8 pointer and I'm happy with this buck!
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

THWACK KILLS!!

Congrats on the buck Jiggle, I know a lot can happen or go wrong in a short time while bow hunting.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.  If
you can't eat it or hump it.

Great pics and nice story! I don't know what it is, but hunting in the snow always brings me luck too!
