I was hunting with my daughter monday morning and as the sun was just starting to peek over the trees I heard a deer running up from behind us and came around to our right and stopped facing us at 40 yards.  Sierra already had the gun up and was ready to shoot.  I heard her wisper that she needed to turn broadside.  The deer had other plans and quickly took off and was getting away.  To my surprise Sierra barked like a dog without me telling her to.  The doe stopped in some thick brush 100 yards away.  Sierra wasn't about to wound a deer buy shooting through the brush so she said "Just take 2 steps"  Well, the doe must have been listening because it did and Sierra dropped the hammer.  The doe went right down.  Double lunged her.

I took a quick photo while she was about to shoot.

Here is a pics from sunday when the boardome was setting in.

I almost forgot this is the little buck that she passed up sat. morning when she was sitting with my mom.  Ma couldn't believe she didn't want to shoot him. I can't believe it myself.

Wonderful story DaKids! Great to see kids out in the woods learning about what we all appreciate. I can't wait until my little scrapper is ready to sit out in the field with me! :happy1:

Her doe was way more exciting than any buck I have ever shot myself.  It was the highlight of any hunt I have EVER been on in the past.  After the shot I told her that I was pretty sure that she went straight down because I didn't see her run away.  Sierra sits back down and asks me why her legs just started to shake now and not before she shot?  I told her it was the adrenalin and to be thankful that the shaking started AFTER the shot.  She has impressed me with her patience, and willingness to pass on little bucks even though I told her that any deer would be fine.  She even wants to go back up north for the 3rd weekend and fill my tag.  If I don't fill it this week I might give her the chance.

Her shot was pretty damn good for anyone.  I know of a few hunters in our party that would have shot the little buck as well.  Hopefully she will have more influance on them than I have had.  One of the other hunters in our party missed one of the mature 10 pointers broadside at 30 yards.  He hasn't sighted in his gun in a few years and it came around and bit him in the a**.   We have now installed a new rule because of him.  Any hunter that doesn't sight in their gun before the season will not be allowed to hunt, PERIOD.  The deer deserves better.

Congrats to your daughter!  I know what you mean by being more excited about her first deer than any of yours.  I am in the second season of trying to but my wife on a bow deer.  There has been a couple times I was watching her watch deer and thinking "shoot!"  I was more excited watching that play out than me seeing a deer I knew I was going to shoot!  Way to go for her and you, Dad!
