Looks to be a warmer opener 50-60's through most of the state for both Saturday and Sunday.  Makes it a bit easier for the all day sit for opening day.   :woot:

i could deal with 30. 50-60 then you cant hang your deer. you got to get it in right away.

Good Point Cody, they should cool down over night though pretty good, but yea, difinitly get-em registered and start butchering or get-em into the meat locker.

it would be nice to dry up some of those wet leaves so they had a bit of a crunch to em

I agree.

Or a good freeze could help make it crunchy too!   :happy1:

I dont remember hunting snow in minnesota ever on opener. Bout 8 years ago we dumped on in wisconsin like a foot of snow on sunday. sounds like its going to be warmer than most would like but the hormones should be raging bucks moving all day looking for some tail.

According to my records (central MN) we had snow cover for the opener during the following years.  2003, 1997, 1995, 1993 and 1991.

1991 there was plenty of snow.  It was hard walking through the woods that year.  Lucky for me I was young and in shape at the time.

I must be a little excited since I am sitting here in my gear sharpening my knives.  I finally went and picked up my license tonight so I should be ready to go, just have to survive work tomorrow.

The deal breaker for me was packing my gear this afternoon!  Now I am going to have two sleep deprived nights!!  I like rifle opener than my birthday or X-mas!!!

I would be willing to bet there is no one in the world that gets more excited than I do. It could be possible to be as excited, but MORE excite?... I just can't fathom it! I haven't slept all week. I cant work worth a crap. I smile at my desk at work all day long. I talk hunting with anyone who will listen and even some who would rather not (my wife). Here is an example of the dumb stuff I do - Today I pulled a chair next to my wife (a non hunter) in the recliner. I proceeded to draw a map of the hunting land for her. I drew all the fields, wooded areas, trails and hunter placement. I was drawing entrance and exit routes all while explaining our new buddy system that I thought up in an attempt to use hunters from our group helping each other drag and tag deer all while creating opportunities for the other hunters still on stand. After about 10 min i final looked up to see that her eyes were closed! Turns out she wasn't as excited as I was! I can hardly stand it. I can only hope that there are others as jacked up as I am for this weekend. It's not a burden - it's a blessing!

Well, tonight... I harvested, (what I would call) a "cull" buck....

I dunno if this deer would have lived long, or been able to father young.
His rack is very semetrical, so, judging only by his head, he seems to be normal.
What the problem is, is that I've been watching this deer for some time now, and every time I seen it, it was dragging it's right rear leg. You could hear this deer coming a mile away, because it's leg was so stiff. Once the "atopsie" (sp) is complete....I'll let ya know what I find....

Here's a smalll 8-pointer I took early opening morning, I had two doe's standing about 30-yards off to my left and he walked out to the right of me about 75-yards down. Pics are not that good, from my cell phone.    :fudd:

From what I could tell, it looks like this deer was a victim of a deer-vehicle hit.  :deer:  :mysterymachine: There were broken bones that had, some what mended back together. Therefore leaving the leg unable to bend properly. I was gonna let him live cause he had good genes in his head gear. But, just before rifle season, I seen him try to mount a doe. And every time he tryed, he would tip over.

Ya did the right thing! Take him out of the mix, and fill the freezer at the same time. I definately would've done the same.

Nice to hear some success storys. I had an exciting weekend but came home deerless. I passed on a spike at 7 am on saturday and he was the only buck I saw within range all weekend. Saw a whole lot of does 20 total all in range. Every buck seen by me or my brother was either chasing or bedding with a doe!

I have been letting the little bucks go for several years now, this year I have passed on 5 smaller bucks already.  I have not been able to get a chance  on a decent size buck in 3 years now, but this year a 2 year old 8 point jumped about 5 yards away and I couldn't help myself.  Plenty of bigger bucks on camera, but feels good to get one with antlers again anyway. ;D

And a live photo of him.

My son got his 3rd deer this evening.  He went without last year, and I was hoping he would be able to get back on the board ths season.

I made him hang and skin this one, after taking care of the 1st two for him.

My brothers neighbor shot this nice buck on Thanksgiving, near Winona, MN. Both G2's split 3 ways. Amazing Mass and nice dark rack.
