Is anyone else like me and saving the money on the license for the smoke pole season?  I really love using the ole muzzleloader during the special season, but this year funds are tight and I can only take a buck from here on out.  I have enough meat in the freezer so I only want to shoot a decent buck and have not spotted anything shootable yet at any of my spots.  I will likely go sit a few more times, but it is going to have to happen with the bow I guess.

I had given that a thought. Still got the bow tag +1, and primary tag for the 3B season which ends this weekend and overlaps the smokepole season. We are in a 5 limit deer zone, and my father would enjoy some venison so I will be trying for one more doe.

I could technically use the first tage on a doe, because the four doe I have this season are from intensive.  I have already given my dad and cousin some meat for the year and have enough so I would like to hold out for that decent buck now.  Just cannot see spending the $27 and not having a decent buck around that I know of I will just take my chances on seeing one within bow range.

John, I know you have plenty of does in your area so just aim straight!   :happy1:

oh yeah, there are does to be had.
and as for aiming straight, just give me something to shoot at... there will be no question of it being downed.

I bought the license....but, I'm all tagged out from bow season and rifle....

So, I guess I wasted my money.  :doah:

But, heck, I didn't know that at the time I bought um!

If I had a muzzle loader I might buy this license but I think I may try my luck with the bow a little more yet.

I'm gonna buy a license, because it's how I'm wired!
I love all deer seasons. I filled my buck tag with my bow, had horse crap luck with the gun trying to get my boy on anything, so we are gonna go muzzle loading season.

I need to head to an intensive harvest area. any suggestions?

Same as last year, I got enough with bow and gun that I will not buy a muzzle loader license.  If I go out again it will be with my bow.  However, I doubt I will shoot anything, just provide support for my son when he goes out.

Sounds like there is enough guys on both sides of the fence.  I am really bumbed to not be going out this saturday with my smoke pole, but there is always next season.  Send me luck on finding a better hunting spot for next season, I could use it!

funny you say that... instead of the annual salmon trip to Lake Michigan... I am thinking Alaska next year instead.

Spent a lot of today in my honeyhole. Didn't see a thing. Where are they? Most of the corn is out now, they must have been resting after a big Thanksgiving feed. Change in the weather coming tomorrow, must try again.

look to tag alder thickets for sign. if you see it, play the wind and hunt the edges. they can hide in that stuff all day..or all season for that matter.

I didn't plan to muzzle load hunt so I took the shot gun and went after grouse.  I usually do a number of grouse hunts during muzzle loader season just to keep some neighbors (mostly their guests) honest.  Seems in the past they felt that once the gun season was over, it was no big deal if they hunted my land.  Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but I don't want them shooting the small bucks we let go during the bow/gun season.  A couple used to ask if they could hunt and I told them not as long as they keep shooting small bucks.
