Has anyone been to Upper Red Lake lately?  I am heading up the last weekend in January and would like some input on the bite and who has the best roads (resorts) and who has the best bait.

Thanks

i think all the roads are good.  and as for bait, i always get it in deer river.
as for the bite, i haven't heard much lately, but when we were up in the beginning of the month, we did well out of jr's on the south side.

I like West Winds. They have a nice bar and bait shop and showers and the road is nice.

Rogers on the south side of URl has a very smooth road. Some bait and tackel.  for $20 one of the guides plowed me a road four hundred yards or better off the main road to me GPS spot.   Too home four limits and ate two.

Well Rookie did your chevy make it off the ice.   what you learn? if it s a blizzard and-20 maybe you shouldn't fish or leave your life in someone else's hands.

Jerry the owner or any of the other guides even Joe out of rogers will do there very best to see that everyone makes it off the lake safely.  when its that cold things freeze up,brake and so on.  stay where its warm leave your truck run or start it every hour to make sure it starts.  be smart out there if that ever happens to you.
cookie and spider and all the other guides out of the east side  i'm sure will do the same

Well Burky I would have to agree with most of your post.  But most of us plan these trips out months in advance and you go on that weekend no matter the weather and you go to fish not sit on the shore.  But still prepare yourself for spending the night in the fish house in case things happen.

:mysterymachine:The chevy Yukon made its way off the ice the next morning  after a couple big v plows went through some nasty 6 fott drifts i started my vehicle a bout every three hours and let it run for 30 minutes each time the other crew didnt do that and they didnt get her started.  I highy recommend a Interstate battery they seem to get the job done.  But any way Old Joe  was the one who told us not to leave until he came and got us.   I think he is more of a northern guide  not walleye.  I still laugh about him boasting up his ford and making fun of my chevy and two days later he is being towed off the lake and i drove off.  Quite a  character
