It’s time to say goodbye to January. What a great month of fishing it has been. Overall, temperatures were above normal for much of the month. With a cold front this past week, the lake is making some good ice again. We currently have around 28” of ice, and the guides have the extensions on the augers for drilling holes out in the houses.

After last weekend’s sleet/snow storm, high pressure moved in for the week. Fishing was slow early in the week, but the action has picked back up. There are a lot of Saugers and a good mix Walleyes in the area we are fishing. Convincing fish to bite can take some work. Jigging seems to be icing more fish than dead sticking on most days. Glow red/pink and gold jigs or lures continue to be the best colors.

Guests with Vexilars or other flashers have been seeing schools shiners swim under the houses. Anywhere from a few feet below the ice to 10 feet down is where they seem to be coming through. Walleyes are being caught not just near the bottom, but anywhere in the water column. If you can get your bait in front of those suspended Walleyes before they quickly swim by, they will usually bite without hesitation. Most all of the Saugers are continuing to hang tight to the bottom. Guests are catching some Eelpout, Tullibee, and an occasional jumbo Perch. You never know what’s down there. Check out the picture of a 60” Sturgeon caught in one of the houses this week!

The weatherman says it’s going to warm back up into the 20’s for much of the upcoming week. It doesn’t appear any significant storms are heading our way anytime soon. Consistent weather is usually good for fishing!

Don’t forget to check out our specials page. There is a luxury coach bus coming up from Appleton, WI and making other pickup stops along the way on February 21st. There is still some space available.

Fish On!
