My question is about Tulibee. I have never caught any nor ever seen one in person.
How big is a keeper?
How big is a trophy?
They taste decent or ?
It sounds like they are a "prized" possesion "up north" . just kerious , thanks for the info

All are keepers. They are mostly consumed smoked. They have a delicate flesh. Order some from Moreys you won't be sorry. Other than the price of em. They kinda look like a cross of a Whitefish and a Menhaden. Late ice fishing is awesome in deep lakes. You can sit in a bay with other fishermen and your truck parked by you and watch as the school circles by the guys pulling up fish. It is like the wave at sporting events. You can tell when they are headed back at you as they constantly move. Then pitch the fish in the truck and get back at it until the truck is full or you got enough.

What else are you looking for? When I was young my uncle used to go to mille lacs and fish them, get a mess of them and smoke them. I would think they are similar to a herring.

I also remember they stink. In the fish world they are a great bait fish for predators, in our world people smoke them. They are prized because yes they do taste good for smoking and when you fins them you can pull a bunch up. They prefer deep cold lakes. Mille lacs used to be full of them but the lake change and they disappeared. The past couple years I have started hearing more and more about them up there but still not like it used too be.

In my exp they are too oily to deep fry, can try wrapping in foil, just slit em on the belly pull out inards, stuff with wild rice mix, and grill, open foil in last 5 min to dry out a bit... Other then that, smoked is the best and only way ill eat em. Going up this weekend, hope to visit them guys on whitefish and get out on mille lacs, if not staying on big pine.

I love catching them. Everyone that I have caught just hammered my spoon. I have caught both ciscos and whitefish. Both are similar and yeah they do stink!

Headin to ROcky Reef next weekend then Little White Fish that sunday. We stayin in a " Foam Dome" sat night. Lots of talk that the tulibees are there.
I have never caught them so I was just doin what this site is here for ( getting valuable info quickly ) thanks to all that have helped! :happy1:
