Snow and ice may be melting, but the fishing has been fantastic in our houses the last few days. The guides cleaned nearly 300 fish for guests yesterday! With the snow melt running into the lake the fish are getting plenty of oxygen and becoming more active closer to Pine Island. The morning bite has been better than the afternoon as of late. We have all of our houses back on the south end of the lake out off of Pine Island. We have been fishing the gradual break off of Pine Island out into the mud flats. Plenty of 14-19” Walleye are coming in. One day you catch twice as many Walleye as Saugers, and the next day it can be the opposite. Red and gold continue to be the best lure colors. A dead stick with a Gem-N-Eye, Frostee, or plain red hook and a minnow has been good. For jigging, Stop Signs, Buckshots, Macho Minnows, and darters continue to put fish on the ice.

Snow is melting. The lake still has 30” of ice in most places. There is anywhere from a couple inches to six inches of water/slush on top of the ice on much of the lake. The ice roads seem to be holding even more water. The past few days the water on top of the ice has started to soak in. We are still bombering out across 4 Mile Bay and across Pine Island. Other fishermen are going out in 4wd full sized vehicles, sleds, and ATVs. It sounds like Adrian’s road will be closed as soon as tomorrow, but other roads on the lake may be in better condition and open longer. The ice on the roads takes a beating all winter long and typically goes bad first. We will continue to take guests fishing as long as we can safely do so. We are hoping for another solid week of fishing or more, but it can be day to day at this point in the season. If you are heading up soon, don’t forget your rubber boots!
