It's that time of year again. The Walleye run is in full swing on the Maumee River.

It's walleye time! It's estimated that up to a half a million walleyes swim through the Maumee River during March and April. And fishermen are not the only ones taking advantage. It's good for businesses too.

Thanks to these slippery, slimy fish, business is booming at Maumee Tackle. Owner Gary Lowry says during the Walleye Run, waiting in line is typical at his store. "Certainly see a lot more people. Our business is tenfold during Walleye Run. We've got people coming from all over the US."

Keith Gibson considers himself a regular, even though he lives 3 and a half hours away. And even on a rainy day, people still seem to be making their way through the doors. "It means a lot to us. It's like our Christmas season, the Walleye Run," says Lowry. And more like Christmas day to fishermen. "As soon as I get off of work, I'm in the river," says Mark Dziengelewski.

The Walleye Run normally ends around the end of April when the water starts to warm up making way for white bass.

People are allowed to fish from sunrise until sunset. The limit to take home is 4 walleye per person per day.
