I am looking for a good lazer rangefinder.  I've done some research and am looking for some answers and confirmation of my conclusions.  I would appreciate a users view and ratings of the rangefinders they have; also a field experience would be beneficial as well.  Thanks in advance!

Hunting:  I hunt turkey, archery deer, and "This is the one the where the finder is going to be put to the test" prairie dogs.  I also enjoy shooting from a bench.

I have looked at the Leupold RX-II and have found the LCD read out blurry when focused on the object.  I have contacted Leupold and they say that this is something that should be over-looked.  I used a bushnell sport while hunting prairie dogs last year and had a hard time finding long distance numbers on small objects.  I am interested in the Nikon 800, but have not had a chance to use it in the field. Help would be appreciated!
I will be buying a laser rangefinder prior to the turkey hunting opener and would like to have a good review of what you like...

Thanks,
Blackdogbiz

I like the Bushnell models but the Nikons are great as well.

I would recamend one that is "water proof" and not just "water resistant".

Think about how many times you have been out in the rain, a little moisture will kill your range finder if it gets in side.

I had a Bushnell 600, the guy I bought it from warned me that it wouldn't be enough for dog shootin'.

He was right.  I sold it to another dog hunter, told him he would regret it.  Like me, he ignored the advice.

I bought the Bushnell 1000 and am much happier.  It still won't reliably range a dog past 300 to 400 yards, but if you can find a dark spot nearby it works pretty good.  What we do if we have a really long shot is range as best you can from fence posts, rocks, dark mounds nearby.  Take the shot(s).  if you get the dog, hop on the wheeler, run down to the dog, range back to the other guy.  Last year I blew one outta the hole at 681 yards ranged this way.  Unfortunately no blood or body so it didn't count.

Anyway, my advice is to buy the longest range model you can afford.  I like the Bushnell 'cause it also is 8x magnifying, but that might be too much for turkey or archery hunting.

cheers

Creek
Can't have everything - where would you put it?

I have a Leupold RXII and could not be happier.  The TBR funtion is superior to anything esle out there.   I'm an avid archery hunter and probably shoot 8-10,000 Rounds a year through my bow ( I have a range in my yard and shoot bohthoff the ground and a 10' high deck).
you can take it to the bank with TBR!  ;D
That's gonna leave a mark!
