The crapies continue to please anglers that are anxious for the upcoming fishing opener for walleyes and pike.

Birch lake has been heading the list for slabs up to one and a half pounds. Due to the cooler water temps the fish seem to be holding in the eight to twenty foot mark. Try waxie tipped jigs or small minnows under a slip bobber for best results. White and pink are the colors to go with. As the water warms the fish should be moving up into the shallows for the spawn. Best early spots will be on the North side bays where the suns impact will raise water temps first. One Pine, Farm, and Fall lakes are also turning out some nice size crappies as well.

We're in the process of expanding our shop to better cater to the needs of our customers, so stop by and visit with us before heading out. Babe's IS "the best little bait shop in Ely", and now we will become even better as our inventory increases.
