I will be in the Marshall area for the first two weekend, then Iowa and then ND.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly as much fun.? Robert Traver "Anatomy of a Fisherman"

I hunted Minnesota for 35 years, just got spoiled after the first trip to a state that actually cares to have any game to hunt.

When Minnesota DNR gets off this political band wagon and starts managing game then I will spend more time in state.

JFYI, I do hunt Minnesota yet.Just not nearly as much as I used to.

I still hunt waterfowl, deer, grouse, squirrel, and occasionally pheasants here.

As far as going to game farms, I had a few bad experiences hunting wild Pheasant, so I now mostly hunt the farms.

Just giving you some grief Benny ...for no reason.

I will add this though. I have been Pheasant hunting or at least going out since I was pretty young. I am 28 now so I can safely say about 20 years almost.

I also have hunted both Iowa and SD.

In the past 3 years I have never seen so many birds in MN! To top that off I mostly hunt public land! The times that I did get out on private.....unreal. 8)

When it comes to pheasants when in the world are you refering to...We now have more Habitat.....crp, crep, wma, wpa, and land than we have ever had.....since the soil bank years...i'm confused.

The deer pop. is in great shape. Grouse numbers seem fare.

From what I am hearing the waterfowl season is off to a bang! We have had record goose numbers in the past few years....

I think we have a pretty damn good state for us hunters.

What do you think??

Ok, so prove to me what your saying is true. ;D

Let's hit a few areas this season so you can show me what I am missing.

I know the Fergus Falls area well as well as the Ortonville area, I know several hotels to stay at that allow dogs.

I am impressed with the long range plan that the DNR has put together for pheasants in the State.  Granted it is only words on paper but for the first time in my 40 + years of hunting this wonderful bird, the DNR is finally being pro-active.  If you haven't seen the plan, go to the DNR website.

Last weekend some friends were out by Appleton hunting ducks and saw birds all over on the gravel roads picking grit.  Another friend owns a hunting preserve by the Danvers slough/Clontarff area and says the same thing.  I know where I hunt in SW Minnesota there are a lot of birds.  Look at the roadside bird count done in August.  I hunt in both the Dakotas and granted you won't see numbers like you do there but that is not what hunting is all about.  You can have days in Minnesota with every bit as good hunting as our neighbors - just not as many.

I still haven't figured out exactly what I am doing. My plans have changed multiple times now. I know where I will be for the weekend just not sure of the details. I'm going to be hunting SW Mn.

Will be working some public grounds on opening weekend real close to home.  I am anticipating crowds so will lay claim to a parking lot in a WMA very early, drink some coffee, eat some donuts, listen to the roosters cackle and give away their locations.  Shoot the bull and 0900, give em hell!!!!
