Anybody have an idea what this is?

My buddy a few years ago shot a doe with a similar growth on the neck same region... it was a melanoma.  We had a pathologist friend look at it under the microscope.    Horses when they get melanomas get them near ears and tail region also...

I prob wouldnt eat her, but I dont eat those walleyes with tumors on them either...Ranchers eat cancer eye cows all the time...but again I wouldnt...some cancers are caused by viruses... best to eat healthy looking critters IMO. :fudd: :deer:

Shope's Papilloma virus was the first virus ever to be proven to cause cancer... about 20% will turn into a squamous cell carcinoma.  Its real common in cottontail rabbits in the minneapolis area.  The bottom picture on your link looks more like it in rabbits.
