Northwestern Minnesota state parks promote Outdoor fun/learning

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites those interested in increasing their outdoor recreation knowledge and skills to interactive workshops offered at Lake Bronson and Buffalo River state parks in August. The activities will particularly focus on young adults, adult mentors with youth, and families with children.  “Outdoor recreation:  Your Pathway to Discovery,” will be held from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Buffalo River State Park (near Glyndon). Several 30-minute educational and skill-building sessions will take place throughout the afternoon, including archery, fishing, orienteering, plant identification, fish  and invertebrate identification, and Leave No Trace camping. “Getaway Outdoors 101: Fur, feathers, fins and more!” will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, Lake Bronson State Park (two miles east of the town of Lake Bronson).  Outdoor skills workshops, led by trained experts, will be offered throughout the day in one- to two-hour sessions. Topics will include camping, fishing, birdwatching/hiking, archery, trapping, canoeing, orienteering/geocaching, and tree and plant identification. Lunch will be provided. Both events will take place rain or shine. The events are free, but a vehicle permit is required to enter the parks. These can be purchased at the park and cost $5 (for one-day) or $25 (for year-round) permits.
